On Sunday, December 8, San Diego\u2019s own creative women’s collective Lady Brain Presents<\/a> is kicking off the holiday season with their first annual holiday party and winter clothing drive. The free 21+ event will take place from 4-8pm at The Holding Company<\/a> in Ocean Beach and feature female-fronted acts Chloe Lou and The Liddells<\/a> (retro rock\/soul), Julia Sage and The Bad Hombres<\/a> (South Americana), Miki Vale<\/a>, (hip-hop) and special guests including emcee Tori Roze<\/a>. We asked the organization\u2019s founder\/organizer Lindsay White<\/a> to give us the scoop on this new holiday tradition.<\/p>\n

What can guests expect from attending this new event from Lady Brain Presents?
\n<\/strong>In addition to showcasing great music from our members and special guests, we always try to incorporate philanthropic elements and\/or collaborative activities into our events. Since the holiday season is a time of reflecting, giving thanks, and giving back, we want to make sure we are all coming together to make our community better.<\/p>\n

What kind of music will be showcased?
\n<\/strong>The great thing about Lady Brain Collective is our membership is so diverse. You’ll be hearing retro rock\/soul from Chloe Lou and The Liddells, South Americana from Julia Sage and The Bad Hombres, and hip hop from Miki Vale, not to mention some special guest performances.<\/p>\n

What do guests need to know about the clothing drive?<\/strong>Entry to the party is absolutely free, but we are asking that attendees bring donations of (preferably new) beanies, gloves, scarves, socks, blankets. These items will support LifeSpring, a program from North County Lifeline <\/a>that provides transitional housing for former foster youth and youth experiencing homelessness.<\/p>\n

Tell us more about the collaborative activity.
\n<\/strong>We always want community members to be inspired and included in the artistic process. Since this year\u2019s theme is \u201cHome is Where the Art is,\u201d we encourage guests to creatively express their unique definitions of \u201chome\u201d through a collaborative art activity. Rather than name-tags, we\u2019ll all be wearing these pieces to show how complex the concept of home is, as well as to remind each other how lucky we all are to know what home looks and feels like.<\/p>\n

What else should guests be aware of?
\n<\/b><\/span>Come dressed in festive attire, and don’t forget to bring a little cash for merch and our raffle. We want to make sure our performing artists feel the love and support from their community! Consider the raffle a tip jar with prizes – all proceeds will go toward compensating our members for their services, so let’s be generous to these brilliant members and their bandmates. <\/span><\/p>\n

December also happens to be your organization\u2019s one year anniversary. What achievements are you most proud of with Lady Brain Collective so far?<\/strong>
\nIt\u2019s hard to believe that we are just one year old. We have already grown and accomplished so much together – workshops, showcases, online support, real-life collaborations and friendships, not to mention an incredibly successful summer festival. My favorite thing about the collective is that members and the community are working hard to build extremely safe, inclusive spaces where creative womxn\u2019s voices are heard and their work is represented and valued.<\/p>\n

What are you looking forward to next?
\n<\/strong>For now I\u2019m focused on throwing an epic holiday party, but after that, I\u2019m excited to start programming more workshops and showcases for next year, including the first ever Lady Brain Film Festival that I\u2019m working on with member Mary Bee.<\/p>\n
